You only care about material things and not about how this lady loved a poor person she banged on a vacation 80 years ago more than the family she had for decades after.

      I really like this interpretation.

A skilled jeweler would be able to cut it down and fence it as multiple smaller diamonds, and pay Rose enough to get her started.

Without it, Rose was easy trafficker bait in NYC.

That value of that stupid rock could probably have feed the entire homeless population of a small city for awhile.

Sell the stupid trinket to some rich people amd do good with the money? No. Let’s yeet into the ocean for dramatic effect.

Because you somehow misplaced yet another phone 3 weeks after buying it and yet this lady is able to keep a jewel for 80 years without forgetting where she set it even once.

You are human. That’s what it means. That entitled old bitch who clearly cannot (or just won’t) realistically estimate the space left on drifting doors. She clearly wanted to get rid of that poor mofo after she was done with him. Freezing and suddenly clear in her rich-kid mind she just didn’t want to spend her days in the backseat of damp old-timers and his breath was awful, all those rotten teeth of the working class.
