Wow the spam was off the charts. Sucks to not have a “mass delete” function.

Yeah this user spammed another topic in the linux community, I was surprised to see a jellyfin topic being spammed too… That’s the price of being a popular software I guess!

Maybe they are better off not going official in this one, I worked for a streaming company that had official apps on every major system, and the Samsung team is a pain in the ass

I should have seen this before I bought my Samsung TV.

Man, sometimes samsung gets up to 2 months behind LG in updates. Then we update a whole lot of shit and it turns into hell to debug because so much changed at once.

It would be great. I just bought Rokus rather than deal with getting the Samsung apps loaded.

I would love to see this too, it would really help Jellyfin take hold in my house.

I’ve been using the LG Jellyfin app for a few months now and it’s been great. I’ve got an LG CX from 2020 and didn’t need to use developer mode, but I guess others weren’t so fortunate. I’m not sure which TVs were missing support before but great to see that it’s now supported on all versions of WebOS.

I gave it a solid try on my Unraid server, mostly using android to stream to Chromecast. And I’m sorry but it just isn’t good enough for regular use. Too many bugs. Subtitles were all kinds of messed up (and it’s not the subtitle file, because it all works fine on Plex), remote control for Chromecast kept disappearing. Only came back after force stopping the app. I had a number of other minor issues and errors, but it was too much to switch over from Plex, where I haven’t had any of these problems. I tried. Maybe I’ll give it another shot in a year or two.

The discord for Jellyfin wasn’t very helpful either when I tried to give this feedback. Basically told me I’m probably doing something wrong. Ok well back to Plex then.

Sorry to hear that. Chromecast (the old kind) has always been difficult to work with for us, as opposed to the Android/Google TV client where we’ve been able to make things a lot more reliable.

I hope we can get some contributors to give the Chromecast app another pass some time soon.

Regardless, we’ll be around if you ever need another alternative :-)

    This is so awesome!

I was actually thinking about buying a new TV just so I could have the Jellyfin all through webOS. 😅

    That’s sounds cool!

Though I have to ask something. Does the LG store manipulate the app in any way after you upload a release to them?
Asking because there are some weird stores that do so, like the amazon android app store embeds data mining (stated in the tos).

Because if they do, then homebrew is still a better way, even if I have to click a button every 3 weeks (even though it isn’t needed, it can be scripted)

I’ll be honest, I have no idea. There were no toggles and as far as I can tell the IPK seems to be the same size. I would consult the terms and conditions of the LG Content Store and make the best decision for yourself 🙂

Slightly off topic but how is the Samsung Tizan app submission coming along?

I don’t get it. I’ve been using Jellyfin from the LG app store on my TV since late 2022.

This is GREAT NEWS! – I think we’ve got many thousands who are running the LG WebOS and that was a big hurdle for them adopting Jellyfin in the first place!

Great. It’s going to be so nice to not have to remember to renew developer mode.
