As a consumer of both, I believe the people that think pot is a personality and vomit pseudoscience really do a disservice to all the other regular folks who also use cannabis. Not that alchohol doesn’t have comparable types (“I can’t drink so much without feeling it!”), it has just been socially acceptable for a longer period of time.

Yeah but those people are just fucking idiots destroying their lungs in a hotbox. IIRC, it doesn’t get you any higher. THC doesn’t stay active in smoke for that long.

Not just lungs, but brain too. From my understanding the reason you “feel higher” is literally just because you get less oxygen since the room is filled with second hand smoke. Big brain moves lol

            I missunderstood what you wrote.

I never did a hotbox so Idk if it makes you higher. Maybe you are right. But I dont really think this impacts your brain because of less oxygen.

I can confirm, using the power of science, that THC does not stay in its psychoactive state below a certain temperature. The only way it can is if it binds to something, typically some kind of fat. That’s why an edible can get you high days after it was made.

Basically, weed might stink a little more than tobacco but not by much. The only reason you smell someone that stinks of weed is the same reason you smell someone that stinks of cigarettes: they sat in the smoke and it stuck to them.

Having been a stoner for years, I’ve never once had someone comment on the smell. Sure, I suppose it’s possible that literally everyone I know and have potentially interacted with on an olfactory level was just being polite but… I doubt it.

Well, I was hoping that indicating the unseriousness of my message with the “🙃” emoji would suffice to make even people, who deem “junkie” an insult, realize that it was at most said tongue-in-cheek.

And I do not consider these habits undesirable in other people, obviously so long as no one is brought in danger by drunk driving or such. They just don’t align with my own personal vision for my own life.

If I need to write any more legalese to justify a stupid one-liner, I will lose my fucking mind. We’re literally in a community for jokes.

Calling someone a junkie is an insult. You are using the term wrong if you think it is not a pejorative. Looking at your comments, you absolutely do look down on casual imbibers, you just don’t think you do. It’s “I’m not racist, but…” kind of thinking.

Yes, when other people use the word “junkie”, it is often said as an insult. Which is why I followed it up with “🙃”. But ultimately, my intent was not toxic, was my point.

And well, it’s cool that you can read so much into my psychology from a handful of comments, but I’m not sure why I should care. Talk to me for half an hour about nihilism, then I might care about your judgement.

I don’t know any, to be honest. If you’re not just enjoying the hot beverage, flavor or even the effects of the caffeine, but rather you’re dependent on it – as in, you fall into a bleak mood, if you can’t have it – then yeah, I would categorize that as the same.

I mean, so long as your dependence doesn’t negatively affect your or other people’s lives, I don’t really care. Personally, I just detest the thought of being dependent on specific substances.

You are also dependent on various natural chemicals in the food you eat. Does that make you an <insert chemical> addict? It makes no sense. I could also find some “socially bad” chemical in foods you eat and harass you and look down upon you for it.

You are targeting caffeine with the negative social reputation of cocaine. Chocolate also has caffeine, just like green tea, yerba mate, tea or coffee. Does that make you a caffeine addict? Makes no sense. A teaspoon of cocoa powder has 12 mg caffeine, roughly 1/3rd of a cup of green tea. A cup of green tea has half the caffeine of tea and coffee.

If your caffeine consumption is within medically safe limits, you are not an addict. Personally, I limit my caffeine intake to under 80 mg a day, 40 of which is green tea, then comes cocoa powder milkshake and chocolate products. In comparison, a Starbucks Venti has 330 mg caffeine, and a Red Bull and a regular coffee cup have 75-80 mg caffeine.

Half my message was specifically written to say that I don’t do this. People look like drug addicts to me. And I’m not looking down on drug addicts.

Anyone who consumes <insert chemical> does not become an addict by default. You yourself consume technology, and are not a hermit living on Himalayas. There is no “purity” in you, just as there is no “purity” in “drug addicts” you label coffee drinkers as. I am not even a coffee drinker and find it insanely stupid.

Green tea and yerba mate have a lot of theobromine, so they lack the jittery effect of coffee or the dependence of black/milk tea. Other Indian/Chinese therapeutic teas are also helpful if one needs a deeper dive.

Idk. I work with a both bunch of sad old drunks and several stoners. The old drunks are in way way worse shape than the old stoners. They can look down like that all the want but their sad old ladies are behind them crying for sure.
