Video of Ukraine sinking this Russian warship: https://lemmy.world/post/12759774
Patrol ships such as the Sergey Kotov are part of Russia’s countermeasures against drone attacks, according to an article published last month by the Foreign Policy Research Institute, a U.S. think tank. The vessels use radar and a helicopter to detect and destroy drones using grenade launchers and heavy machine guns, it said.
Seems…. Embarrassing. Granted the ship was probably not itself designed to stop remotely piloted RIBs loaded with explosives. They’re fast. Hard to detect, and perfectly capable of carrying enough boom.
Ukrainian propaganda. Glorious ship Sergey Kotov successfully intercepted all drones with her hull, and was promoted to submarine fleet for job well done.
Largest and most technically advanced submarine fleet in the world!
So advanced not even the crew’s needs force it to surface.
Stanislaw Lem was right about everything
Another? After the one last night? Reads article…oh, it’s the same one, just another article. Still love to see/read about orc ships sinking.
AP with the “image not related”.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
The Ukrainian military intelligence agency said a special operations unit destroyed the large patrol ship Sergey Kotov overnight.
Patrol ships such as the Sergey Kotov are part of Russia’s countermeasures against drone attacks, according to an article published last month by the Foreign Policy Research Institute, a U.S. think tank.
Kyiv’s forces are struggling to keep the better-provisioned Russian army at bay at some points along the largely static 1,500-kilometer (930-mile) front line, but are also taking aim at targets far beyond it.
In the Black Sea, Ukrainian successes against enemy warships have pushed the Russian fleet away from the coast, allowing Ukraine to set up a grain export corridor.
Almost two years ago, the flagship of Russia’s Black Sea fleet, the Moskva guided-missile cruiser, sank after it was heavily damaged in a missile attack.
Moscow has repeatedly accused NATO allies of gathering intelligence information to assist Ukrainian strikes on Russian forces.
The original article contains 635 words, the summary contains 152 words. Saved 76%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!
I’m noticing we’re seeing less and less news about Ukraine and can only conclude it’s because they’re losing, badly.
“No news is bad news” at least in the case of propaganda.
More likely to be the result of the news media’s short attention span. They’re moving on to other topics like the elections, Gaza etc. I’ve not seen any credible evidence that Ukraine is ‘losing, badly’. The situation remains fluid and complex, but Ukraine continues to surprise against enormous odds, so I don’t think anyone can really say either way atm.
