Great essay by Scrimshaw on the state of play in the OLP. It’s likely they won’t survive another election if they continue with their internal delusions.

Smiling neoliberalism is on it’s last legs: when money was cheap and you didn’t have to worry about right-wing demagogues grifting on protofascist rage, it was great. You could take corporate cash, sell off assets, strike up commissions and committees and generally do as little as possible.

Everyone (who mattered) made money, and it was great.

Well, it’s the end of the road, voters are actually expecting results, and painting park benches with rainbows isn’t going to cut it, especially now that Conservatives don’t hate brown people any more.

They still hate LQBT2Q+ and secretly behind closed doors also hate abortion and womens reproductive rights though. Which is going to continue to be a problem when it comes to convincing women voters. So not all is lost, just quite yet.

The Ontario Liberals fucking suck though, Ontario politics is a sewer. NDP is impotent, Cons just bluster through trying to privatize everything and rewarding themselves and their supporters, and the Libs are just not on planet earth. And the Green party is unfortunately just 50 years ahead of their time.

@psvrh @RandomCanuck McGuilty and Wynne destroyed the Ontario Liberals. John Fraser is in over his head, and Marit Stiles will embarrass the Liberals now. It’s not looking good for the Ontario Liberals for the next 8 years.

Remember that time Steven Del Duca was the OLP leader? He literally had his campaign all but written for him thanks to the many public blunders of DF, but he dropped the ball. Failed to campaign in any meaningful capacity. Didn’t take the gimme shots at DF that would have cemented his status as being more pragmatic. Didn’t take him to task on healthcare privatization, even though he was caught red-handed consulting on privatization in 2018. And now he’s the mayor of one of the most conservative enclaves in Canada: Vaughan, ON. Makes a lot of sense doesn’t it?

I actually have no idea who the OLP leader is, like at all. Same with NDP. I mean can’t they just dress up a potato or something for the next election so someone can beat DF?

OLP is having a leadership contest right now. Federal MP Nathaniel Erskine Smith and Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie are running

ONDP had a leadership contest. Marit Stiles won it by default as the only person that ran

Good riddance to the OLP. I remember how they acted when it looked like the ONDP might win the 2018 election. They basically attacked the ONDP and advocated that people vote “strategically” to stop them from winning. Here’s a tweet from that time attacking both the ONDP and labour: https://twitter.com/OntLiberal/status/1001542343076536320
