DNA and voice is voluntary at least for now, but they will do a mandatory iris scan. Doesn’t make it any better in my books. The fact that the government even wants this much biometric data is ridiculous.

That’s the Vietnamese government for you. Such blatant overreach and I’ve seen little discourse on this issue. So many people blindly trust it because national unity/national security/patriotism or whatever. If you dare to oppose the government, they’re taking you to the police station for questioning. There’s basically no press freedom and internet freedom is shit as well so where the hell are people going to get differing opinions? All the articles I’ve read are simply parroting the government. This shit would never fly in a democracy. The writing has been on the wall for a long time. I’ll be finding ways to get tf out of here
This kind of thing is happening all over. The UK is a well-known western surveillance state. Here in the US, (in my state at least) we are required to give thumbprints for a drivers license. Entering the US at many locations now entails fingerprint and facial scans. All governments will trend towards more total information/control.

There’s absolutely no free speech and free press, since free speech and free press are unrestricted speech and press, under no law, people there can say whatever they want. Even american don’t even have it, they just allow people to insult other by whatever sentence. Viet Nam is more restrictive: insulting others are not allowed.
Knowledgeable person actually understand the consequence of unrestricted freedom. They are educated. Not like anyone want to comment on other government’s policy without actually living in it and understand it.
About internet freedom: we already have it for years. Before 2018, anyone can set up a social media site if they want, but now they will need to register for it. That’s equivalent to the business law: if you want to set up a company, you must register what your company do.
They are better than those who cannot manage their own people.
