I played for about two hours today. It’s fun, though not spectacular. Feels a lot like Destiny 2’s Gambit game mode (but no buttery-smooth announcer).

I’m not too invested in the story personally. It seems like there’s a decent amount of depth here for those who are.

The game really needs per-class tutorials, or at least in-game descriptions of class abilities. I’ve been paying as the grenade dude and I have no clue what exactly my RB ability does.

There’s enough here to keep my interest for a few weekends at minimum. Glad to see it’s on Game Pass!

Actually having a really good time with the game! Not gonna sugarcoat it, there are some ugly spots here and there, like:

    • lack of transparency when it comes to the customization of your exosuits (e.g. no stats page, descriptions being lackluster, etc.)
    • seemingly lack of content, as there is only one game mode (which is tricky, a lot of the different mission objectives and other spicy things unlock with the story progression - which only progresses by playing the game)
    • monetization. Look, I’m obliviously biased on this, since I play for “free” on Gamepass. I understand that someone who payed full price would feel unhappy with their design choices, but in my opinion: there is a battle pass with loads of cosmetics for 10 bucks (if you’re into that, they look okayish, imo), some instant buy skins and unlocks for the initially locked 3 suits (more expensive, idk why, but not really needed, you unlock by playing) and… That’s it.

Some positives tough, in case anyone is interested and is still reading my comment:

    • all the suits feel good in their playstyle. Really. The tanks are bulky and have different ways to mitigate damage, the supports all play very different and are more or less able to cc, dish out damage or buff their team while also healing their mates. And the assault (dmg) suits all got their gimmicks, be it the Allrounder, explosives, melee combat or sniping.
    • additional to that, all animations look cool and flashy - I feel awesome and strong playing (very subjective, but give each one a try!)
    • PvP is not that big of a part in the game itself. Yes it’s essential (most of the time) to win, but you can also queue for pve only (still a time-trial against another team!). But what I found most bizarre is that the PvP is actually kind of fun. Especially when you start to get the hang of things and know what your suit is capable of.
    • slaying hordes of dinosaurs is hella fun. Feels like a fresh take on dynasty warriors (in a good way!)
    • if you’re worried by the ranking after each match being skewed in favor of “who did the most damage” - then don’t be. I’ve been MVP plenty of times with tank and support as you gain points by using your skills in an efficient way.

Hope this helps anyone out who wanted a more indepth perspective :)

Edit: typos, as I typed this on my phone.

I’m wondering if, as in many cases, the PVP will only be fun for the first week of the game’s release. A lot of times, once a game has “established a meta” and a sizable percentage of its players are playing firmly to win, the learning experience becomes miserable for everyone else.

        That’s a good question that I don’t have a good answer for.

I guess, as with all games, player counts will dwindle, meaning more experienced players remain. As for a meta, just from my perspective, there are a couple suits that are better for pvp/certain objectives than others. Ultimately I think the most important factor for pvp will be (imo) flexibility. You can change your suits at any time, so you could counter the enemy team comp - but so could they.

I’ve never been good or interested in pvp anyway, so I might just not see the bigger picture, but some things to consider:

        • You can still queue up for only pve.
        • pvp only makes up for a small fraction of a match (like 2 minutes out of a 10-15 min match)
        • a new pve-only game mode is supposed to release at the end of july, according to the devs roadmap.

My adventure with Exoprimal: Launched the game, need another account to even play: strike one. Made account, linked it. Got through a tutorial. Arrived at the hub, infested with ads, offers for premium battle pass and speed-up packs. Strike two, three, four and all the way until 100, you’re out, game. Uninstalled, not coming back. The end. Another win for game pass, would be pissed if I paid extra for it just to be monetized to death.
