Geneva - The Israeli army has killed 94 university professors, along with hundreds of teachers and thousands of students, as part of its genocidal war against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, ongoing since 7 October 2023, Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said in a statement issued on Saturday

According to Euro-Med Monitor, the Israeli army has targeted academic, scientific, and intellectual figures in the Strip in deliberate and specific air raids on their homes without prior notice. Those targeted have been crushed to death beneath the rubble, along with members of their families and other displaced families.

Obligatory reminder that when nazi Germany did this in occupied Poland, this in itself was called in terms which were later codified as genocide.

If you want to ensure your enemy never learns that there’s a better way, you kill all the educated and academics. That leaves only the religious fanatics and corrupt politicians.

Why does this article refer to its own newspaper in the third person?

      You mean parts like this?

Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said in a statement issued on Saturday

      According to Euro-Med Monitor

Many newspapers does this, apparently it’s a old journalist standard being taught in their schools to avoid writing in first person unless they are writing opinion, to keep impersonal presentation image and differentiate (most likely for legal reasons) between personal stance and the one of entire newspaper - that is, when they write like that, is more official.

If from 25k dead only 17 of those are professors, it seems like a really weird claim that Israel would be deliberately targeting them…

I think they’re busy destroying every large building in Gaza tbh

But there’s like 30% of all buildings destroyed according to some sources, and Al Jazeera is adding the nuance that all the universities are either ‘damaged or destroyed’. Which would certainly suggest that the statement that they are all destroyed is at least somewhat exagerrated.

Those targeted include 17 individuals who held professor degrees, 59 who held doctoral degrees, and 18 who held master’s degrees, the rights group stated.

University professor can be used for any university teacher, while a professor degree is a specific title. I’ve been taught by teachers with professor titles, doctorates, and masters. They are all teachers.

See my reply above with a napkin calculation - without knowing how many there are, how does one conclude they’re being targeted? The numbers are so low (sorry for the cynicism) one could argue Bibi is trying to wipe out all the window washers or something.

Is your argument really that a certain profession isn’t a large enough % to be “targeted?”

🇵🇸 Nobody sides with the genocidal fascists when this over with 🇵🇸

Imagine you’re an IDF planner and Bibi personally tasks you to use the cover of the coming campaign to take out the Palestinian academia. Three months in, you’re called in to report on your progress. Do you think he’s going to be impressed that, on top of the statistical average, you’ve managed to kill 0,34% of them?

I’d say the piece of shit is likely fairly impressed, yeah…

Your comment’s lack of awareness is striking. Beep boop.

          “targeted”

Your own source uses the very terminology you’re refuting.

Well, how many are there? Wikipedia tells me there are about 10 universities and colleges in Gaza, with around 140-150.000 students in higher education. If the student-teacher ratio is say 20-1 That would translate to 7.000 teaching staff, which would translate to 70 deaths, versus the 94 that are cited.

You’d think if they were actively trying to kill all the professors there’d be a lot more by now.

Not everyone that works as a professor has a professors degree.

If you want to make cheap excuses for genocide at the very least do a bit of research beforehand.
