This week went past so quickly! I had tons of work stuff to catch up to, so pretty much only got to play over the weekend, and hopefully will get to play on the weekend again.

Played some Snipe Elite 4, I think I am about 75% done with the main campaign, basing off the trophies.

Also played some Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1. Nothing much to say about it.

Tried Air Conflicts: Pacific Carriers but couldn’t get into it, so dropped it after about an hour.

Started Powerwash Simulator and played a little bit. Not sure currently if I will keep playing it or not.

What about all of you? What have you been playing? And what recent or “coming up soon” game you’re really excited about?

I’ve been playing The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons on my Analogue Pocket, in short bursts at a time. I’m on the third dungeon so far. It’s not as cool as Link’s Awakening I think, but it’s fun.

Still haven’t finished Mario Wonder on Switch and haven’t even played Mario RPG for weeks. I need to get back to those, but recently all I’ve been able to play is those short sessions with the Pocket. Hopefully this weekend, though I’ve come down with some virus, so I don’t know how much gaming I’ll be able to do 🤒

Oracle of Seasons was my first Zelda game ever! I think I actually liked it more than Links Awakening, but I might be biased because it was my first one. Both are excellent games, though.

I think the same might be happening to me regarding bias 😅 Link’s Awakening was my first Zelda! Did you play Oracle of Ages too?

I never played Ages. I borrowed Seasons from a friend, and I don’t think I knew it was part of a set until years later.

I keep holding out hope that they’ll remake Seasons and Ages using the Link’s Awakening remake engine. That’s what is preventing me from playing it now on an emulator.

A remake in the new engine would be amazing! It sold relatively well, it sounds to me like more remakes would make sense since they already have the engine and some assets they can reuse.

If they do remake them, they will probably bring them out during some down period when there is no other game.

The Oracle games are quite underrated handheld Zelda games. They’re like playing an N64-era Zelda in the style of Link’s Awakening. When I played them I finished Ages but didn’t get the chance to finish Seasons (I borrowed it and had to return it), but still had fun with both and thought the password carry-over mechanic was neat.

Wow, someone with actual Analogue device! I have always seen them completely sold out. Not that I would’ve bought any, since I don’t really have any cartridge for any of the older system and I am not going to start collecting them now, but still…

How are you liking it? It looks really neat!

Depending on the virus, it could be lots of gaming because you can’t do anything else, or no gaming, because you can’t do gaming either. Hopefully it’s the former one. May you get well soon!

Thank you! I’m at the point where I can’t do much because I’m not feeling great, but will hopefully feel better during the weekend 🤞

Yeah, I love my Game Boys, but the Analogue Pocket is amazing. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to play their old cartridges. The save states and the display filters are great additions. You can also install cores and emulate several other consoles like the SNES and Mega Drive. My only complaint is after I got mine (plain black version) they released a few limited versions like glow in the dark and transparent, which I’d much rather have, but they’re too pricey to buy again 😅

I kind of regret not buying the Super NT, I know my SNES won’t live forever 😬 I’m still on the fence about getting the 64 one, Analogue 3D. I think what they’re doing is pretty awesome, hope they’d get to the point where they can sell the consoles at more accessible prices.

Oh yeah, they do look great.

And I agree, Analogue is doing great work for game preservation. If I had a collection of old cartridges, I would’ve definitely tried to get my hands on them.

And don’t be on fence, get the 3D! Their devices are always sold out, so get one when it’s easily available, or you’ll regret it like you do for Super NT!

Shadowverse. I’ve been looking for a good card/deck game that doesn’t require playing online and buying cards. So far, this game looks pretty good. I also got powerwash simulator. I thought it might be a good game for when I just wanna zen out and not think too much. hahahaha!

Shadowverse is great. I don’t care for the actuall app, but I’d buy a second game like this in a heartbeat.

It’s also pretty hard towards the end, which was kinda nice.

The mobile game or the Switch one?

Assuming Switch one, is there a campaign? And no need for buying or spending any more money, other than buying the actual game?

The switch one. It’s like those old Yu-Gi-Oh! games where you follow the story of the anime (there actually is a Shadowverse anime and the game follows the first season). While there is online play, I never actually bothered with it. You unlock new packs and currency to buy them throughout the gameplay in large quantities. No need to grind or anything and no microtransactions I’m aware of - only some DLCs I believe. You get a fully fledged “TCG-RPG” for your money. It’s voiced in both english and japanese and you get an actual 3D world to explore.

There’s a demo too, just try it!

I’m finally getting around to playing Hollow Knight. I’m decently far into the game now, and I’m having fun. It reminds me of the original Metroid where there are very few limits to where you can go early on, and you can just sort of get lost exploring and discovering really meaningful upgrades seemingly by accident. As opposed to the Ori games, which remind me of newer Metroid games where there is clearly a path that you are supposed to be on and very set order for you to get meaningful upgrades with a little bit of variance to reward extra exploration.

Hollow Knight is great. I eventually gave up when I got stuck at a boss, took a break, and was completely lost when I got back to it sometimes later. But I believe I was about 70% or so done.

I’m a few hours in on Persona 5 Tactica, and going in almost completely blind, I have no idea how much of the game I’ve finished. I just got Ryuji and Haru back. Despite the game combining two things in games I really enjoy (Persona 5 and strategy RPG gameplay) I haven’t been motivated to play too much at once. The game is good, I just haven’t felt much like playing games.

Don’t worry, it happens some times. Usually a small break, or trying some different game can perk you back up. Phelpssan shared his review about P5T in last week’s thread, so you can look it out if you want. It’s completely spoiler free.

I really enjoyed it. I love the fighting mechanics. It’s a shame there isn’t more fighting involved. However the dialogue with the NPCs are way too long. They cut the rhythm of the gameplay. That’s my only big gripe with this game.

Currently playing Sonic CD on Sonic Origins Plus.

Beat the first Sonic game but did not collect any Chaos Emeralds because I couldn’t at the time.

    Finished Cassette Beasts!

A very fun indie monster collecting game. Visually reminds me a bit of the GBA Pokemons, and this game has a lot of good ideas that I’d like to see in more games of this genre.

In particular, I really like the more open-world approach, the environmental puzzles (reminded me a bit of Golden Sun), and the vulnerabilities system - instead of being simply “fire does extra damage to ice”, it’s based on buffs/debuffs. If you hit a Wind monster with a fire attack you trigger an “updraft” creating a wind barrier to protect it, but if you hit a plastic monster you melt it and change its type to Poison and apply the status effect at the same time.

The OST is amazing, and I really like how all battle themes have a vocal version that plays when you (or your enemy) trigger a Fusion. This is a small thing, but does a really good job in adding more hype to those battles.

It’s fairly short (took me ~20h to finish the main story), but there’s a lot of monsters left to collect plus some post-game content that I’m interested in doing eventually.

Playing The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails!

Not much to add to this one. Slow progress since I was mostly playing Cassette Beasts this last week.
