    I feel like we scare our DM with this sometimes, when he takes a single player into another room to discuss something private and comes back to an in-character discussion over how easy it would be to poison a major NPC

    Players: immediately become interested in discussing the fake weather

    Sometimes there just needs to be a prompt to get it started. Not everyone self starts.

    DM: “I’m taking this player away for a sidebar. In the meantime, our next activity will be to infiltrate the castle. Come up with a plan that each character can justify their involvement in. I’ll give inspiration when I return if you can explain it to me.”

    Leave room. Chat with other player about how you didn’t have anything for your sidebar and just wanted to get the rest into their characters a bit haha. ;)
