The song U Stink But I Love U was written by Mucky Pup and they made a video..

I saw these guys back in '89 at a shit hole Jersey Shore club, and some asshole stole the spark plug wires out of my car during the show.

Bootleg was the first Book County book I owned, the rest I had borrowed from a friend. That vinyl was amazing, sadly mine was misplaced.

Memory unlocked! I totally had this as a kid and completely forgot about it until now!

I think I even remember some of the lyrics maybe. Something like:

“I hate the way you act and I hate the way you smell. I hate the way you look cuz you just look like hell!” ?

Thanks for the blast from the past!

I always found it funny that Breathed chose the band “Billy and the Beaters” to parody with Bill the Cat’s band. Billy and the Beaters was a one-hit wonder with a song that was featured on Family Ties.

It’s the comic Opus the Penguin is from, if you’re familiar with him.

It is supposed to be music by Billy and the Boingers, formerly known as Dëäthtöngüë (I forget where the umlauts go, so they all get them).

Right, I got that from the band name; I just didn’t know if this was a, like, real band, or a band that someone started to parody a band from the comic, or a band that someone formed to pay homage to the comic, etc.

            So it’s just some band?

It’s the band in the strip. The had a real band do these songs.

In the strip they were poking fun at heavy metal bands like Judas Priest, and the infamous Tipper Gore hearings.

One of my favorite words is Diagetic. The music is part of the universe you’re observing.
I think this isn’t quite the same as that, since it’s music that is coming out of the universe, and intended to be representative of something inside, but it’s at least related.
Like the musical notation at the end of a Charles de Lint novel. Emergent diagesis.

Once you said diagetic, I knew just what you meant. Music that exists within the realm of the comic that has been “recreated” in our world? Excellent.

It’s a rock band of rebels with a death tuba section, from Bloom County. In the universe of the comic, they go on tour and Bill destroys a motel room. They do their best to imitate the greats. They are the vanguard of culture. Thanx for the groovy gams!
