I was building a ROM switching adapter so that I could use modern 27256 ROMs in the 2332 and 2364 footprints on the Commodore 64. I decided to add an LED and resistor to the bottom for mood lighting. When I started adding LEDs of different colors it turned pretty sexy pretty fast.
The latest iteration of this adapted has the microcontroller right on the adapter under the 27256. It handles switching the address lines, choosing between 2332 and 2364, and runs the RESET and EXROM lines. I have a pin left that I could use to run a WS2812 programmable RGB LED.

Thanks! I bought a red clone board so I use red downlights but someone asked me, I suspect jokingly, if they came in other colours so I made them. I like this photo.

Thanks. The boards in the picture work well with the 3264 socket but don’t work for the 2332 socket. I’m basically done the circuit for the new one where there is an AVR on board with all of the supporting circuitry to do the 2332/2364 switching and to support up to 4 kernel ROMs and 8 character ROMs using just the RESTORE key and power LED. I’ve even been considering setting them up to daisy chain so that you can choose the kernel and the character ROM using just the RESTORE key and LED.
I don’t plan to sell them. I can’t build them at anything near an affordable price. I might be willing to share a board with an adventurous DIYer who wanted to build one for themselves. I might also put the BOM and schematics, and maybe even the Eagle files up on Github.
