In a bid to reduce global electronic waste, Fairphone has created a smartphone that owners can repair themselves. What makes its technology so sustainable?

Fairphone is trying to do good things, but this article misses the point of at least the title.

Open source drivers for the hardware are the critical key to reducing e-waste. Fair phone just has a slightly larger window than other companies, but they’re still creating e-waste. With open drivers, those devices could last forever, just like 486 linux machines are still on the internet.

Yup, and that’s why I’m excited about Linux phones, and disappointed at the same time. They have the hardware features I want, but the software just doesn’t work properly yet.

It’s the BBC. They’ve always been biased but always pretend to be Independent, like most media sources.
