Canada Bread’s $50 million fine for its part in Canada’s bread price-fixing scandal will be paid to the federal government. Many Canadians want to know why it’s not going directly to them — the folks who bought overpriced bread.

Just to add, I don’t think many are advocating for (another) direct rebate to consumers where you get a cheque in the mail. It seems most advocates are saying that the fine should be given to organizations that feed the hungry (food banks, etc.).
It’s pretty fair to say that this is more palatable than it just going into general revenues.
Also, $50 million seems like a total ‘slap on the wrist.’ You think this will stop the grocery store barons?
