It’s upside-down world here, people. Downvoted away, that is the true hallmark of an unpopular opinion.

I think what people get wrong is that any statement that would get downvotes in other communities must necessarily get upvotes in this one. That’s not how it works.

“Pizza tastes better without cheese” is an unpopular opinion.

“I think we should all pee on people whenever we feel like it” is just the ramblings of an insane person. It’s unpopular sure, but it’s insane. It’s trivial to make these.

“I dislike x race” is just racist. It can also be unpopular but if it were allowed this community would just be a racist community.

Unpopular implies that the opposing position is popular - meaning that lots of people consciously hold that opinion.

For a less disgusting example, “everybody should eat bananas” is an uncommon opinion but it’s not unpopular because “nobody should eat bananas” is not a common opinion

Another one I saw on here was trying to argue against a fact by calling it an unpopular opinion. And then trying to say “well it’s just a conspiracy theory”. Arguing against a fact isn’t an opinion, it’s just flat out wrong.
