You ever read 1984? You remember the bit about newspeak? Well go have a conversation with a zoomer sometime and pay attention to the word choice they use for controversial subjects like suicide and murder (self/other unalive), depression (big sad), pornography (corn), neurodivergence (neurospicy), etc.

I’m not saying TikTok is solely to blame, but content recommendation algorithms are definitely warping the language people use. Almost all of these genZ slang terms originated as weasel words to talk about these touchy subjects without getting deplatformed by an algorithm designed to keep things advertiser-friendly

The kids are alright. Don’t let authors who write articles about the “woke mob” (yes that’s the kind of stuff this guy writes, check him out he’s trash lol) bait you into blaming the next generation for issues we need to deal with as they fabricate new reasons why young people “just don’t have any worth ethic like they used to” whatever their flavor of critique is this week. It’s so predictable at this point.

Again, the kids are alright. We need to take care of our own shit and stop pointing our fingers at them.

This is nothing new. This is just “new generation bad” with a side order of anti-woke.

Perhaps you’re not old enough to recall movies edited for TV (e.g., “stranger in the alps”) or the moral panic if someone saw a nipple.

I talk to Gen Z people, and they communicate just fine. They’re perfectly capable of discerning reality from Tik Tok.

“Every new word the kids use is literally 1984” - an idiots guide to linguistics.

The words you mentioned were made to appease the extremely sensitive sensibilities of advertisers, not really the effect of a government conspiracy.
