Perceptions of extreme inequality undermine peoples’ belief that the economy is working for them. This, in turn, dampens their aspirations to improve their economic lot.
Black and white thinking like this is basically why we’re going to end up with the same tired government again after the next election, with the same policies, catering to the same tiny yet wealthy portion of the electorate. Liberals can pretty much rely on low-info voters confusing criticism of the government with supporting the (albeit terrible) party of the official opposition.
It’s incredible how any criticism of the libs is always met with the same tired reply that the conservatives are worse. The whole liberal platform effectively boils down to not being as overtly heinous as the conservatives.
Typically Canadians do not vote governments in, usually it’s to vote them out. Amazingly with as many times as the Conservatives have reinvented and recombine themselves they do end up forming governments due to anyone but the current one please is where we end up.
The last time the people had enough of the Liberals and their controversies in came Harper. When people had enough of the fear and division of Harper, in came the Liberals.
It should be interesting this time around as the anti vax, conspiracies, and racist types will be more on display.
The NDP/Liberal block still might not be able to overcome this as the current government has been in power long enough to be at fault for everything wrong in most people’s lives today…
The government that’s been ruling for around a decade now is absolutely at fault for the things that happened while it was in power. That’s the whole problem with Canadian politics, nobody ever takes responsibility for what their party does when in power, and there is zero accountability. There is no positive vision for the country, no plans, nothing. People just vote for whichever party they expect will fuck them less.
