TLDR: one wheels will abruptly stop when low on battery, when moving at too high of a speed for a long period of time, or when it detects and error state. New one-wheels are receiving a software update to hopefully prevent that, but the original Onewheel and Onewheel+ should stop being ridden and disposed of.
Which makes it very interesting that they ignored the problem until now even though it was widely known. They are just another anti-consumer garbage company.
Onewheel is such a cool thing. I rode mine everywhere where you would think it shouldn’t be possible. But the company itself can honestly go fuck themselves. I had soeme problem with mine (still have, just found a not so fancy workaround) but since i don’t live in the u.s, shipping is expensive and i read some horror stories of rapairs that took forever, i can’t just ship it around just so they ship it back without them doing jack shit for month. Their quality control seems to rival teslas, since mine should have never left the factory, it never ran before it arrived at my doorstep. And theyr customer service is absolute ass.
They just happen to have that one niche product no one else can do as good (when it works)
I think lots of companies could do better (the e-scooter and e-bike market is quite diverse). Too bad Future Motion does not want to license their patent on the form factor filed in 2013, which means we might have to wait until 2033. However, the patents might be their most valuable asset after the recall, and they may be forced to share them if they lose enough money.

It was the first thing mentioned to me when I saw one on my university campus lol, I’m surprised they haven’t had a mandatory recall.
