But it is though. Chappell Roan is just a derivative of Kate Bush. AI is not copying it’s using what it knows as a template. No different than you or I. To think otherwise is to have your head up your ass.

Now we can argue if we should be allowing AI to do this and I believe no we shouldn’t as it detracts from people being creative.

But that’s not the argument you were responding to.

Those who came before her. That’s the point everything is an expansion and growth on what came before. We are a sum of our lived experiences.

Where AI fails (and why I would happy to see it die when it comes to creative experience) is it lacks the context. AI will never come from a tough childhood. It will never experience slavery first hand. It will never experience love. It will never experience so much of what makes us alive be it good or bad.

When someone interprets inspiration as plagiarism, that’s a solid sign that they are just a plagiarist making excuses for themself. That’s pathetic.

See? Hack shit. Do you really think this level of confident ignorance holds enough validity to even bother arguing with?

You don’t know what music theory even is or how tonal structures in music work, and it shows.

Edit: Your stance also implies that every society is plagiarism of Sumer, that every song is plagiarism of rhythmic grunting, and every piece of visual art is plagiarism of cave drawings. Are cars plagiarizing walking? You not being able to be creative or to apply effort does not equate to nobody being able to conceive and create something.

You know who came up with that little phrase of yours? Plagiarizers.

You scream of a neck beard pontificating from their parents basement.

I will bite though. What I will tell you is yes, everything is plagiarism in some way. Copywrite laws need to die

Every generation is built off the ones that came before it we are all plagiarizing from what we have learned over time. Now you can either bury your head up your ass or can acknowledge we are all hypocrites and move forward from that knowledge.

Plagiarism is how we evolve. There’s a reason “plagiarism is the sincerest form of flattery” is an expression.

That’s a lot of words that could just be summed up with, “I’m a plagiarizing capitalist and refuse to see how that’s shitty of me.”

So, it’s just plagiarism all the way down. No one ever came up with anything, ever? If you’re projected view of art is that nobody was ever capable of originality then that’s not a statement about art and originality, that’s a statement about you.
