The Russian opposition news site Mediazona is counting names of Russians who were killed by them wanting to conquer Ukraine. They are at 168,142 and also try to estimate using death statistics of districts which comes up with 219k dead. However the Russians seem to have become better at hiding those numbers, with public records being delete and so forth. So it is probably much higher then that, but a million is also stretching it.

Just as a comparison the US had fewer deaths fighting Japan in WW2, then Russia has confirmed by name fighting Ukraine.
