A new character was released for a game I play (Celeste on Deadlock) and someone wanted to talk about whether they were trans or not which attracted… attention. So, I just used the thread as a list of people to block and it just felt pretty great to take out the trash, as it were.
pic related, it’s me

Good points lol.
As for the game itself; well, I suppose I enjoy it more often then not. I mean, I keep playing it despite some truly distressing interactions. I do use the mute button quite liberally, and have abandoned matches because I’m just not in the mood to deal with that sometimes, mute button or no. Still, I keep coming back because more often then you’d think I have a truly wonderful experience with both teams actually having fun and enjoying themselves despite losing. Those kinds of matches aren’t that rare, though of course the most common is when no one says anything except with the voiced pings, which maybe I should be thankful for.
There are also the balancing and matchmaking issues which can make some matches a total slog because you get absolutely stomped by really high ranked players. Sometimes you’re on team that’s doing the stomping though, and you just basically do nothing all match. I hope it these are fixed soon, but who knows.
Having switched over from DoTA I was trying to find a MOBA we could play together but had trouble with the toxicity. I love the complex and competitive nature of those kinds of games, but the toxicity that comes along with it doesn’t sit with me as easily anymore. I just want to play collaboratively with a group, I want both teams to be interested in a good match and, at most, good spirited jabs in the chat.
The matchmaking disparity was there when I played as well, but I wasn’t sure if they made changes. If you’re still sticking with it it might be a good reason to try and get back into it a little
I think it would be prudent to also mention the reporting system in the game: if someone is reported for abusive behaviour, they get a chat ban for varying lengths depending on how repeat their offence is as well as being placed in a low priority cue with the other toxic peeps. Or at least that’s what I’ve heard happens, haven’t experienced it myself.
