The spectator was under the impression that it was a closed hearing - that is, a hearing that is limited to only certain select members (in this case, all Democrats). The spectator wanted to know why it was a closed hearing that only involved Democrats on the panel.
Bennie Thompson told him essentially that it wasn’t a closed hearing, that Republicans were also completely free to join it, but none of them did.
The headline is “HOUSE DEMOCRATS MARK 5th ANNIVERSARY OF JAN. 6 ATTACK ON U.S. CAPITOL”
Rep. Bennie G Thompson, who is quoted above, is a Democratic representative of Mississippi, so I take it a hearing was held and no Republicans chose to participate.
??? They didn’t say “no Republicans participated in the Jan 6th attack”
Isn’t that what the rep said “Becuase no Republicans participated”, but the hearing was closed to democrats. Maybe I misunderstood
I would read it as “It’s not closed, it’s just that no R’s participated so it looks that way”
I think its saying no republicans participated in the committee? But closed to doesnt make sense in that context.
Yeah I re read it… still not computing with me
