    Does this significantly damage the wood?

      Yes, the body of the fungus grows through and digests the wood slowly, this is literally rot with the bonus of food production… though you probably wouldn’t wanna eat these depending on what they’re growing on, as they can suck up toxins which you then eat.

        Yeah, I’d imagine treated wood wouldn’t be great.

          In the wild I find them growing on maples and alders. Douglas fir construction lumber and plywood fruit should be avoided.
