Wtf, this place probably employed many people in their community. You’re gloating about the misfortune coming to many people just because someone who has a different political view than you will also be hurt?

You would rather see a sawmill torn the fuck down and all of the workers on the street just to spite a family who used to own it because they voted differently than you?

With views like that, I bet that if you were president, you would also be a tyrant who punishes political opponents.

It wouldn’t be enough for you that they lose their mill, you want everyone who ever worked there to be punished.

see the good thing is there will probably be an opening in the market for somebody else to open a sawmill

not gonna get into whether or not it should be torn down, but “because they voted differently than you” is very disingenuous. it’s because they support fascists. those are not the same thing.

It will be bought up by a large company. Thus wealth will continue to be consolidated. Nothing else matters.

No, it’s generally only big company sawmills now. It’s the same thing where stuff closes down and it’s unprofitable for older small businesses. These guys were probably barely hanging on.

Most of their work was from overseas.

The domestic market obviously did not support this mill.

Odds are whatever company (and employees) fills the void will not be paying into the USA.

Your take is that it’s un-american to produce a product for export?

My take is that tarriffs killed the ability for this mill to compete for its foreign customer’s business, which was the majority of the business. After tarrifs there were not enough domestic customers to keep the doors open.

The mill that will meet the foreign needs will not be American because the dont have to add on tarrif increases.

Thus the jobs, business tax, payroll tax, and wages reinvested in the economy will all be going to some other nation.

The people who support fascists don’t own the mill anymore! Whether or not it should be torn down was the only point that I was discussing in my comment.

You’re gloating about the misfortune coming to many people just because someone who has a different political view than you will also be hurt?

LOL you’re talking about the conservative mindset. as evidenced by the article in the post, trump voters can literally be devastated as a direct result of trump, yet STILL support him because he’s hurting the people they hate. but oops, trump voters got fucked too, so of course now they’re crying about it. because they thought the leopards eating faces party wouldn’t eat their face.

and yes, we love to see it

fuck trump, and fuck trump voters

why are you in this sub?

I’m not a trump supporter and many of the people who work at the mill won’t be.

Why are you calling it a sub? Bringing your Reddit zero sum mindset over here, I see.

It’s great that they had to sell the mill sure, but the person saying that he hopes it goes further and the mill closes and everyone loses their jobs, is a objectively terrible person and has a terrible take. Downvote me all you want, if you support saying that the mill should close just to spite people who don’t even own the mill anymore, you’re not a good person and you’re definitely not better than the trash who vote for trump.

I love how you’re attacking a person for a comment about a sawmill they didn’t shut down, and a president they didn’t vote for. All while completely ignoring the two parties in this article that have any true fault.

Apologists like you, are just as bad as the supporters, since you share the insatiable drive to find some other party to blame.

Also this is lemmy, if you were so into semantics, you would have thought about your comments a little more carefully. People who throw around the “you belong on Reddit” insult are just as pathetic as the trolls that are still over on Reddit. They have a slew of “communities “ if that’s what you prefer; for apologists. Why not check it out?

i wasn’t attacking you personally, nor did i anywhere imply that you are a trump voter. so you should check yourself before you start accusing people of the “reddit mindset” while throwing around ad hominems.

the question of whether these people should lose their jobs-- well, if that’s what it takes to make people realize what an unmitigated disaster trump is, then yes. absolutely. if that doesn’t work, where do we go from there? martial law? security checkpoints? “papers, please”? we’ve already got american citizens not only losing their jobs, but being kidnapped and thrown into unmarked vans and deported to 3rd world countries they’ve never even been to.

so to reiterate my main point: fuck trump, and fuck trump voters. i’m glad they’re suffering

They didn’t “vote different.” They voted for a convicted criminal who is a pedo and wants to subjugate minorities.

Those people don’t own the mill anymore. How hard is this to understand. It’s literally the subject of the discussion. Every single person who works at the current mill can’t be assumed to be a trump supporter and don’t deserve to be punished to spite people who don’t own the mill anymore.
