Most people will calculate that there’s a chance of survival in detention but no chance of surviving a gun battle with multiple cops. Armed resistance needs to be organized and collective, because the individual calculus is always this.
They don’t need to murder you. The criminal cases against ICE protesters in Texas hinge on the government’s assertion that carrying a weapon to a protest is evidence that you are planning a terrorist act (also, wearing black, using Faraday bags for your phone, and traveling to protests in groups are all now considered evidence that you are planning terrorism). So, carry a gun near ICE and they will call you a terrorist and disappear you.
Murder is bad optics, but label someone a terrorist and America will cheer while they execute you.
