I’ve stopped using Google Photos but haven’t really found a suitable android app (or two separate ones) which can replace two main features:
- One-click post-processing - I think Google called it something like “auto awesome”, basically a single button which slightly tweaked brightness, contrast, and presumably a few other things to make snaps look a bit better
- Automatic backup - I’ve tried proton drive but the app is a bit slow to load thumbnails, and critically it’s a one-way copy so you have to manually re-delete everything from your phone
Any recommendations for apps which can replace these features? Doesn’t have to be all-in-one, and FOSS is preferred!


I switched to Ente a while ago and it’s been great. My wife and I can even share photos with each other by default. I don’t know that it has as good of photo “magic” but you can still use the Google camera app to do it if you want.
My only complaint so far is that it doesn’t sync photos as fast as Google Photos does.
Ente definitely looks like the first thing to try out as I’ve not got much of a self-hosting setup at the moment, thanks!
