So, I just got permabanned from the London Ontario subreddit for criticizing the police. The cited rule was trolling, but my comment was on-topic for the post and when I pointed that out, I was muted by the mods. This is the second Ontario subreddit to ban or mute me for critizing the police or criminal system now, and it’s emblematic of the concerning trend of right-wing promotion on Reddit in general. A similar thing happened on the Ontario subreddit weeks ago when I was the only pro-trans commentor on a post and the comment deleted for calling a fascist a fascist (“name-calling”).

I’m posting this here in case there are leftists or queer folks who are similarly punished for expressing their views on that site and question if they’re actually breaking rules. If you’re questioning switching off of it because it feels hostile, you are not making things up.

Lemmy uses the same system, weird place to pivot to.

/r/onguardforthee banned me for being anti-American. Same as OP “trolling”

I honestly think its biggest utility is as a replacement for Reddit. As much as I have always hated that site, it is an important way for people to access information and organize locally with relative anonymity.

Since Lemmy is mostly known as a Reddit replacement, it’s useful to convince people to stop using Reddit.
