Well, maybe Carney can stop pretending we still like him and get serious again. I know he wanted a trade deal, but it was doomed from the start. I appreciate him being humble enough to try, but fuck the US.

I don’t know that I’d blame Carney for this. I voted for Trump, but let’s be fair: this policy wasn’t new, it’s only going into effect next month after being approved by Trudeau. It also is completely fair, as it taxes American companies the same rate as Canadian companies.

I didn’t blame Carney for anything. Just expressed my hopefulness that we can now stop playing nice with Trump for the sake of securing a trade deal and move on.

If Trump comes back to the table I don’t see a problem in negotiating, but there’s no need to bend over backwards for him, over this of all issues.

Agreed. I think a lot of people are mistaking Carney’s attempts at diplomacy for weakness and/or appeasement. I can understand their point of view, especially for the EU who aren’t shy to express their distaste and don’t have this monster at their doorstep like we do. But I do think before long Carney will have to tighten up a bit and stop trying to butter the guy up. It’s a lost cause when it comes to Trump, as we’ve seen here. You could jerk the guy off every day and he would still turn on you at a moment’s notice.
