I wish I’d got to see Chapman going up to Scheids in the dugout yesterday saying “wtf did you pitch to Ohtani?” because I think the body language would help me determine how appropriate I felt it was (e.g., vet sharing experience or player stepping out of line?). I figure he’ll get a talking to behind closed doors, like, “we value your input but don’t bark at the manager on live TV - that looks bad.” Chapman is kind of interesting, because he seems to be very influential in the clubhouse as a vet, but I think it’s all but guaranteed he’s not a Jay next year because the Jays won’t give him as large as a contract as some other teams will.

I’m glad Whit hit lead-off yesterday – long overdue, and he looked great! Springer now needs to show that he makes sense in the 5th spot (and not lower).

It’ll be interesting watching Puma on the bump today. Will he be a solid 5th starter the rest of the season? (I’m counting Manoah, Ryu, and Kikuchi all as 5th starters right now - in terms of expectations, like ‘5 and die’). Kikuchi is trending higher in the rotation, but of all the rotation arms, he’d be the most valuable coming out of the bullpen during the playoffs. Manoah (as he currently is) and Ryu’s stuff does not play in higher-leverage relief situations

It looked intense but I’m not sure that it was totally egregious. Not a great look, but it’s hard to get a reading on it.

I wonder if it was on Sportsnet if they would have shown it… I bet they filter some of that stuff out since they own the team.

I got a kick on the Apple broadcast how many times they mentioned “Skydome,” the correct name at the time, in the context of their discussing the Jays World Series years and the opening of the stadium. There’s no way that would have flown on a Rogers-owned broadcast.

When you see non Rogers coverage of Jays, Leafs, and Raptors (just some examples of MLSE teams, I realize many Jays fans do NOT cheer for other TO teams), it reveals how incestuous the main media coverage of these sports teams is. It’s ridiculous in the case of the Jays: Rogers owns the team, the building, exclusive rights to broadcast the game in Canada by video and radio, and one of the two largest sports media companies in the country. Behind this is the absurd oligopoly of Canada telecommunications. Unlike most of our economy which is subject to market forces, Rogers and Bell enjoy near-exclusive access to provide these services to Canadians, which is completely unjust and the cause of Canadians paying higher cell phone rates than any other country in the world. As these services continue to take on greater importance in our society, our Government needs to reign this oligopoly in, as there’s historical precedent for them doing in other industries. Diversification of our telecomm industry is long overdue!

I’m an expat living in the states, and every time I visit Canada, I am constantly shocked at the high cost and low quality of Canadian telecom services.
