      Now you’re making me wonder if any were in pre-invasion Germany or it they were all in conquered territory

        The first concentration camp was actually Dachau which was in Germany. Bergen Belsen, Buchenwald and many less known ones were/are in Germany. Poland contained the four major extermination camps which were expressly for mass killing, chelmno, sobibor, treblinka, and belzec.

        ~40,000 facilities were involved including those for temporary detention.
