minus-squareDannyBoy@sh.itjust.workslinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up11·edit-22 days agoI think my Miata and Tercel have thicker control arms, and they’re both a pinch heavier than 2000 lbs.
minus-squareEddoWagt@feddit.nllinkfedilinkarrow-up15·2 days agoWhat about the fact that the upper control arm seems to be mounted with 4 small bolts
minus-squareWIZARD POPE💫@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up12·2 days agoWell bolts are usually steel. The frame is aluminium. I assume the bolts would just shear off the frame entirely.
minus-squareEvil_Shrubbery@lemm.eelinkfedilinkarrow-up11·2 days agoHoly shit. So the thing in the OPs pic was done by some kid that kicked the tyre?
minus-squareKecessa@sh.itjust.workslinkfedilinkarrow-up5·2 days agoIt’s a picture of the upper control arm when it’s probably the lower ball joint that broke (and not the whole lower control arm)
minus-squarePraiseTheSoup@lemm.eelinkfedilinkarrow-up13·2 days agoAlmost certainly the ball joint. Exact same thing happened to my 1993 Buick Regal. The difference is my car was worth fixing, even at 250k miles.
minus-squareBytemeister@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up7·edit-22 days agoYep. My '99 Crown Vic did the same thing… around the 250,000 mile mark. Had it flatbedded to My local mechanic 400 bucks later I was back on the road. Good thing this is a truck with similar body-on-frame construction, otherwise that would be really expens…oh wait…
minus-squareEvil_Shrubbery@lemm.eelinkfedilinkarrow-up6arrow-down1·2 days agoYou are prob right (and prob it’s a design shitshow below too), but if the car was moving the higher ball fucking off could lead to lower ball quitting the job soon after as well.
The prophecy has been fulfilled yet again

Wait it’s really that thin??
