I still can’t figure out why anyone cares. Liberace had batshit insane skills. None of the stuff he played was anywhere close to what I like, but every time he came on tv back in the day, I was glued to it. Why the fuck does anyone care who he loves ? It isn’t like nobody knew he was gay. But his fans did not give a shit, including my grandmother who was actually a bit of a bigot about that. Not venomous or anything, but definitely not approving, and prone to prejudice. But he was never anything but an idol to her, even with her believing he was gay.
I think for some of those people that deep down dislike gays (or minorities for that matter) but have a friend who falls into one of those groups or are a fan like in this case just tell themselves “but (person) is one of the ‘good ones’”.
