The how it works is pretty simple, you can get most of the parts either commercially or via direct order. Also what you can do will vary based off of body a 2001 Honda Civic will have vastly different requirements for both parts and modifications needed vs a 1956 Volkswagen Bug. Also it’ll vary by how much of the original car is left, if it is literally just the frame or if it’s got everything except the engine will effect how you do things.

As for how to get it done, look around for companies or go to a car show. When I say car show I mean the type with dedicated areas for Hotrods and weird campers. If they have a Yugo or Fiat Polski then you are probably in the right place, chat with folks and you’ll either find someone who can point you in the right direction or will offer to do it.

I have a friend that does EV conversion of RAM Promaster. Might do that with my model 3 in order to avoid selling to a nazi.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a good car for the price. I see them quite a lot too.

Pick a manufacturer. They all make models now.

The only BYDs available in the USA are busses, trucks and forklifts. No cars unfortunately. Same with all the other Chinese brands like MG - none of them are available in the USA.

Most of the Japanese, South Korean, and German EV brands are available in the USA, in addition to American brands of course. Ford, Kia, Hyundai, VW, BMW, Audi, Cadillac, Chevy, Dodge, Genesis, Honda, and probably others I’m forgetting.
