The intent, Carney said during an interview on Rosemary Barton Live, is to invest in Canada’s economy “at a time when we absolutely have to build as a country.”

The taxpayer dollars would “catalyze many multiples of private dollars” to build homes, energy infrastructure, AI systems and trade corridors — “all of which are fundamentally necessary if we are going to grow this economy, irrespective of how President Trump is feeling on one day or another,” Carney said.

Carney also said a federal government led by him would balance its operational spending — such as government-run programs, federal transfers to provinces and territories and debt service charges — over the course of the next three years.

At least he’s being honest about it. There’s going to be alot of growing pains strengthening Canada, people need to be prepared that that.

That is probably the thing I admire most about him … his honesty.

Every one of us knows the next 4 yrs (at least) is gonna cost us a huge amount of money, and Carney verifying that instead of bullshitting us shows he’s a stand-up kind of man.

That’s the type of leader you can follow, because he’s worthy of your trust.

I’m growing a bit worried about the element of foreign interference in this one though, especially in social media. No one can think with their brains anymore. It’s going to be a big factor here, like it’s not even about trust, it’s going to be more about the other side courting misinformation and exaggerations, and whether they can get it to stick. It’ll be an onslaught too.

Canadians seem to be smarter than a lot of our southern neighbours were tho. I mean the polls are showing the Liberals have almost caught up to PP.

And I get that polls shouldn’t be trusted beyond any doubt, but they are an indicator that PP’s rise wasn’t due to anything but Canadian’s anger at JT.

PP will lose big time because he and his MAGAt buddies are dumb as fuck, and seem to fundamentally believe that we are the same as Americans. We are not. At the very least we’ve learned exactly what will happen to Canada IF PP wins … and very few of us want that.

I really, really want to believe this - but ever since my city’s downtown core got locked down by people who weren’t able to differentiate between federal and provincial jurisdictions, at the behest of people who originally claimed they wanted to overthrow the federal government, it’s hard.

The appeal to nationalism that was present in that event does cut both ways, though. sigh Interesting times…

Anyone got a bead on what the right-wing meme machine is saying about the current affairs re: Canada right now? Most recent thing I saw was a Geordi Laforge meme comparing the tarrifs with the carbon tax.

Yeah I don’t know about it being fact that we are that much smarter. Polls aren’t yet going to be a good predictor, we are too far out from the election. It can only take the temperature of the mood in the past, not at present moment or in the future. This election hasn’t even really actually begun yet, this is just the circling of the wagons phase.

Sure hope you are right on that last paragraph, but I’ve lost a lot of hope these past few years.

For sure. It’s just sometimes better to not admit stuff like this on the campaign trail, gives the other side ammo to manipulate and twist the message.
