Premiers hail ‘constructive’ meeting as they lobby against tariffs
A team of Canada’s premiers met with senior White House officials on Wednesday as they continue to make the case against tariffs on Canadian goods.
“It was a good conversation. I thought it was constructive,” B.C. Premier David Eby told reporters outside the White House on Wednesday evening.
All 13 premiers made the trip to the U.S. capital this week to present a united front against President Donald Trump’s twofold tariff threats against Canada.
While P.E.I. Premier Dennis King and Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston had to leave early due to weather concerns, the remaining premiers met with James Blair — Trump’s deputy chief of staff for legislative affairs — and Sergio Gor — Trump’s director of personnel.
“They urged us to take the president at his word,” Eby said.

I’m so fucking done with this administration. There’s zero reason for 50% tarrifs when everyone else gets 25%. It’s higher than China.
I don’t even want our government to play ball on this anymore. Just say “go fuck yourself” and block sales of any products that go into US aluminum production including bauxit and energy, block oil and gas, block sales of chromium and coal to the US. Expel the US embassy from Ottawa since they’re threatening us with war while we’re at it.
It’s 100% clear that whatever we agree to they’ll just push further. Whatever we do they’ll just ratchet up. So what’s the point of even talking?
