If I am required to do this, I am purging my Discord account immediately. I am not giving them face scans.
I do not have a camera…so get fucked I guess. Ok discord…bye, you are easily replaced as a voice chat for videogames with friends.
You only need to verify your age if there is evidence on discord that you are too young to use the platform
“Evidence” being so vague and malleable a term that it’s insanely easy to abuse.
What they consider evidence is if you say you are 12. Explicitely. It’s not in their interest to ditch you out of the platform for no good reason
They do technically still offer a “manual review”, which is what they do now, where you have to take a photo using any kind of camera with your photo ID and email it… which isn’t really better, and can be very, very slow in actually regaining access to an account.
Since when do they ask for age? I remember you didn’t even need a verified email
I’m sure you won’t need this in your average server.
Are you joining dating servers full of teenagers and questionable activity?
I don’t join any servers. It’s a voice replacement for ventrilo, which I would consider using if I can get a music bot tos tresm music to everyone in the channel.
I don’t socalizetoutside of my group
Then you’ll probably never be affected by this.
“Questionable activity” is an easily abused term for power-tripping assholes. Especially with right-wing politics becoming so prevalent world-wide, it’s easy (for example) to imagine a scenario where a group of LGBTQ+ types are targeted for harassment - being forced to choose between losing their safe haven or outing themselves & putting themselves at risk of far worse.
Like, your phone doesn’t? Or you choose not to also have discord on your phone? People can only reach you if you are sitting at your computer?
It’s a program I will only use on a computer when playing videogames. Discord isn’t a social thing for me, but a voice chat for my friends playing videogames.
Oh, interesting. That’s like the one feature I don’t really use it for. It’s weird how subtle differences in what you were around for can make such big differences in what stuff you use. Like literally everyone I know or knew my age is on Discord. It’s our primary social platform. I’m in like 30 servers and active in 10 of them. I’m in the discord for every game I actively play. And every game has one, I just assumed that was a common thing to do.
But seeing peoples comments about negativity and other stuff, I have never seen that on discord. So I guess it makes sense why I didn’t get pushed away from it. It’s all been incredibly positive and great gaming communities for hanging out in. I can help so many people, usually when I play a game, I get pretty into it. So I tend to know alot about it, and it’s nice to be able to help out people with questions about it. I don’t know where else people that aren’t in a games discord go to ask those questions, usually the discords are pretty huge.
