Protecting Trump’s enemies from prosecution just reinforces the idea of politics as retribution. Instead, Democrats should be defending his most vulnerable targets.

Why should illegal immigrants be pardoned? If you want to live in a different country you should go through the official immigration process.

I want to live in Iceland and I can’t just arbitrarily decide I live there. They deport.

i get where youre coming from, really. but theyve also made it incredibly hard to immigrate to the US on purpose. they dont want legal immigrants.

and its not quite the same thing as iceland… the US has an obscene amount of space and resources and is more than capable of incorporating a huge number of immigrants. this country was built on immigration, by immigrants.

this is more about hating brown people than it is about ‘legal status’.

Iceland has nothing but space and resources yet it’s nearly impossible to immigrate there and I don’t see anyone complaining about it. This analogy can apply to all of Scandinavia really

hahahaha it doesnt even have the population of a single major US city.

california is the 5th largest economy on the planet, and its just a single state. its not even kind of the same situation.

There was someone on here that said that the US sucks compared to all these Scandinavian countries…where MOST people are white… so, you’re saying that those countries that have more white people, and less diverse cultures, thrive more? lol…

hahaha incoming admin wants to do genocide against certain populations in this country. people wanting to not die will desperately go anywhere they can get where they’re not getting killed. very easy to be dismissive now that you’ve put the word refugee in quotes. you really owned my leftist ass. i guess ben shapiro and jordan pedersen taught you well how the world works and all the scared people just need to cooperate more with the governments that want to kill them.

cool. you go on tour to the safe parts of our country and walk around with all the privilege of someone who feels safe doing so. meanwhile our marginalized people get beat to death by cops with no accountability, or else executed for crimes they provably didn’t commit, or simply die of exposure from not having housing or enough money for healthcare, and you presume to know the motives of the people who feel emboldened by the admin. with this entitlement, you feel free to talk down to someone who walks around in these streets and has lost friends and loved ones in the blood soaked machinery of our system of violence about how it’s all in our heads.

i just say all this in hopes that someone sees what you’re saying and sees this response and questions how authoritative your position is. i don’t think you can be woken up to the truth. you’re too far down a propaganda rabbit hole. i just don’t want your bullshit left unchallenged because the prevalence of your brand of ignorance is getting me and my friends killed.

Yeah and Canada is full of dark shit too. That’s why I think it’s ridiculous that people think they can flee the US to here and call themselves refugees. It’s just another side of the exact same coin.

You cite free healthcare. Do you even understand how many people are dying in Canada due to not receiving any care at all? The gov introduced the MAID program because it’s easier to just let people kill themselves than it is to actually address the non existent healthcare system.

And do you understand how many people are dying on the streets here due to an intentional lack of housing?

I can go on and on. But sure yeah, come here and enjoy freezing on the streets I guess. At least you will be accepted as a gay person while you freeze I guess.

simply die of exposure from not having housing or enough money for healthcare

Like this is literally the canadian experience right now lmao

A pardon is not a conferment of citizenship. It is a clean slate to allow those who had been previously caught and deported or imprisoned, or who are currently in an uncertain state of limbo, to have a clearer opportunity to go through those official channels.

Those who enter illegally are usually barred from re-entry for years, which means that there is effectively no legal path towards residence or citizenship that can satisfy their immediate need.

But you have privileges, financial security, and stability in Canada that migrant groups often do not have in their countries of origin. Many are seeking an escape from poverty and violence but are denied asylum, so rather than go back to what may very well be a death sentence, they choose to gamble on illegally crossing the border anyways.

It’s easy to say “go through the official immigration process” when the only consequence for a rejection is just a sigh and a shrug, but not so cut-and-dry when people wait many years for a “maybe” while you and your family are starving.

Not poor enough to want to hop across the border and work less than minimum US wages, no. Did you eat food within the last 24 hours? Do you have a bed to sleep on and a roof over your head?

You must have some device to access the internet, so that is already an incredibly vital resource that millions lack. And Canada’s not exactly rife with violent crime, what would you be running from?

Every country has problems, but not every country’s problems are proportionate. Mexico’s poverty rate is over 3 times as high as Canada’s and applies to 4 times as many people, and Mexico is still better off than most of Latin America.

I mean, there are even many people in the US who see Canada as a sort of promised land of universal healthcare and better human rights. Grass is always greener, I guess.
