As a parent of a teenager who has tonic-clonic seizures (aka grand mal), this story made me nauseous. A patient recovering from a seizure has absolutely no ability to respond or understand what’s going on. Police should be helping and making sure he’s on his side, not tasing him. Whoever these cops are should be fired immediately. I hope Mr Frankel bankrupts the department.

We need to fire all cops and have more paramedics and social workers instead.

So they can come out and, best case scenario, they tell you there’s nothing they can do? Or show up and wait on standby for the criminal to finish what they’re doing a la Uvalde?

Or would you prefer the come out to a potential burglary call and end up shooting the woman who called the police in the head?

Good thing we have so many of them to keep us safe during all these crimes. 🙄

            No.

What you need is an actual police force that protects and serves. At this point, US police is little more than another criminal gang. You need police officers that get 4 years of training, that are held accountable for their actions when they cross lines, that come from the communities that they will serve… You know, basic rules that apply to police officers in most civilized countries.

Most US citizens don’t realize how messed up and weird theit country really is. Saying “defund police” may sound like a reasonable option from your perspective, but anyone living in a country with actual police that actually serves and protect, it sounds like crazy talk

The other thing to keep in mind about the “defund the police,” slogan is that most other countries cops do their jobs with way less than half the funding that US cops get. They also don’t have the largest and best equipped military in the world just handing them old equipment, from weapons, to body armor, to armored vehicles. US cops are a racket specifically designed to bleed the taxpayer dry, and waste as much money as possible.

Ok, well here, and I say this as someone who was victim to a pretty bad crime this summer, we’ve tried other things. Retrain the cops? They select training that teaches them to think of suspects as a constant threat to their life and listen to their gut or stuff like drug training that puts them in deadly fear of fentanyl and teaches them to mistreat marijuana users even where it’s legal. Fund them better? They buy military surplus equipment like MRAPs. Body cameras? They turn them off. Any accountability whatsoever? They stick together better than the mafia.

And all this with a purely puntitive justice system. It needs a complete overhaul and that begins by making sure the police can’t afford military vehicles.

We’d have less crime if there were less poverty.
