In your settings you can change your default sort order. Changing it to hot should deal with this issue. Active is like old phpbb forum sorting where any time someone comments on a thread it will bring it back to the top no matter the age.
Oh weird. Top 6 hour is another good way to get fresh content with the caveat that the top of the feed doesn’t change as much as hot so you have to scroll for new content.
