  • So you can sign up for a specific instance of lemmy or kbin, and then see and interact with any content from any other instance of the Fediverse, provided they have not defederated. Where things get a little weird is how upcoming apps will function. I was told that Sync for Lemmy will likely require you to have a Lemmy account to sign in, but will still allow you to browse and post to any Fediverse content. This may end up being just a short-term issue until developers can “line up API endpoints”, whatever the Treknobabble that means.

  • The interface for Sync, as an example, made it much easier and more efficient to use. I would argue that 3P users use more calls because using those apps allow you to browse and interact far more effectively without cutting through the swaths of “He Gets Us” ads that Sync users never even had to see. Ultimately, I suspect that tha was the true reason for the API changes. Lost ad revenue. Judging by what I saw just today being stuck briefly on the official Reddit app and the website taking care of last minute issues after Sync went down, it’s bad. Wall of ads.

  • Vicious, but true. I’m still struggling with whether or not I’m going to astroturf my comment history and delete my account. I see a lot of folks saying their comments were restored and then they had no way to log back in to delete them again. For now, I’m just going to leave my Reddit account dormant. I suppose it isn’t super effective to leave my content there for Spez to benefit from, but I kinda feel like it does more harm to people just looking for answers than it ever will to Spez if I were to remove it. All around, this is just a ridiculously stupid situation we all find ourselves in over the whims of small minds chasing after big money. Again.

  • I’m playing through Ocarina of Time for the umpteenth time, Majora’s Mask, Minish Cap, and Metroid Fusion. I feel like it’s worth it. We have a family plan and my family all play Animal Crossing, so they enjoy the DLC that comes with the Expansion Pass.

It really does boil down to whether or not you care about the features it provides. If you have an easier way to emulate the N64, Genesis or GBA ( or have the original hardware) I wouldn’t bother. The DLC perk isn’t worth it on its own, as it’s still cheaper to just buy the DLC straight out. The caveat being for yourself. If you’re using a family plan, and play all of the games with the DLC, it can definitely be more affordable than buying all of the DLC 4 times.
