Trivializing the Holocaust by equating it to other events is an agreed-upon definition of Holocaust denial by a fairly broad range of institutions and viewpoints. A smooth, voluntary, nonviolent transition to peace and harmony would be every leftist’s dream, but there are institutions with power who have used, are using, and will continue to use violence to prevent it from happening in order to maintain their material interests. Call it whatever you want, but the process of transitioning from our status quo to something better will require dismantling institutions that are capable of defending their existence with violence. One thing I like a lot about LotR is that it’s incredibly detailed and thorough, but there are still some things that simply exist regardless. In a world where magic is real, it wouldn’t make sense if everything had an explanation.

I like Bozeman as Zephram Chocoran’s home base because there’s a good chance that Montana might have been spared a direct nuclear strike. Same logic applies to why San Francisco looks so futuristic: it for sure got flattened entirely by a nuke, so they would have had to build it back up from nothing afterwards. I’m guessing the Golden Gate was still partly standing and they rebuilt it for the same reason we keep other historical buildings/monuments around.

Nice. Yeah, I figured they must have some variety of relatively mundane applications or else it really wouldn’t make sense to spend billions of dollars on these huge facilities. I’d imagine it would be kind of like a supercomputer or a telescope, where the infrastructure gets built and then different groups take turns running experiments and gathering data for their specific projects.

Anyone knowledgeable have a concise take on particle accelerators? Like, are they working as hoped/expected? Are we going to keep building ever-larger ones to find even more secrets? Is there a possibility we look back in 50 years and realize we spent a lot of effort on a failed theory? My understanding is limited, but I am generally in-support of big science projects.

The best part is that there’s no braindead mod or pissy admin who’s going to shut it down for jerkoff motion reasons. It just gets to exist. I could cry. This is what it’s all about, folks.
