American politics: “but her emails!”

Finnish politics: “but her breakfast bills!”

This is the hot button topic here that the news media is trying to desperately milk for headlines and clicks.

Yep, as a Finn I can confirm that this headline is not a joke. It’s not a parody.

This is actually happening here. People, like every single fucking person in this country, is thinking about this right now.

I’m afraid we’re gonna have our full-on Trump moment soon. This is such a preamble to that.

      Sorry to hear that.

I don’t know anything about your politics, but am I reading it correctly that she’s being pretty reasonable about this?

Marin has been reasonable about this. This meal allowance is a normal policy for a prime minister living at the official residence, she didn’t even ask for it. In a recent TV interview she just said “I have other things to do rather than deal with these kinds of things all day long”. On Twitter she even had to debunk a rumor that her August 2020 wedding was paid by taxpayers!

I’m afraid we’re gonna have our full-on Trump moment soon. This is such a preamble to that.

It would require a victory in the next parliamentary election for the Rudimentary Finns Party, becoming the largest party.

Which according to the polls might very well happen. It’s still a few years away, though.

Yeah, she’s pretty much done everything that should be done and more. She promised that the rules around this thing will be clarified, she will pay back all the money from her own funds used in this way, and will stop using this benefit even if it will be deemed lawful later.

Stuff like this has been an issue elsewhere too. Sometimes it’s pretty serious, but sometimes like this it’s kind of not worth talking about. Give her a slap on the wrist and move on.

But in a sense this is good as it sets a precedent for other politicians trying to do the same thing.

Oh, I see. This is like the kind of deal where everyone are out to get the politician. That’s not good.
