      In the liberal fantasy Bowser describes, a union would be wasteful because the company is perfectly competing but the union makes a monopoly, creating a deadweight loss.

      In real life, the company is already nearly a monopoly to its employees, so adding another monopoly to negotiate with decreases the deadweight loss.

      Most people don’t want to switch jobs as frequently as we need to now. They want to just pick something they actually enjoy and do that for years.

    I feel like this should’ve been published before all the “Nintendo loves unions!” articles

      I don’t feel like this contradicts those articles?
      Saying workers have the right to form a union isn’t at odds with saying that they haven’t done so because on average they don’t feel the need.
      Two instances of questionable firing doesn’t really speak to a corporate policy at a company that size, and contract workers are always going to report feeling less valued and like second tier workers because they are. The company pays extra so they don’t have to worry about satisfaction and doesn’t have to onboard a full time employee.
