would it be possible ? this seems like a good idea we can pitch in people from the fediverse and complete it . also would be a fun experiment.

In case any one wondering https://invidious.snopyta.org/watch?v=XnRCZK3KjUY a blank canvas was allowed to be painted collectively

Holy heck I was thinking about /r/place this morning during my work commute!

I don’t think if it would be a success with Lemmy’s current userbase, and it’s definitely not in the roadmap of the current developers, but maybe an event that involves the whole Fediverse could turn out to be as fun as the original r/place.

But, the more I think about it, the more I’m convinced that it might not be a good idea for the first Fediverse-level event to be a rip-off of Reddit’s most successful community game. Also considering that r/place was based on cooperation, yes, but the game was hugely centered also on communities competing against other communities. Idk how this would fit into most of the Fediverse platforms’ moral framework. Also, from a technical point of view, I don’t know how easy it would be to moderate the whole thing to avoid botnets and such. It’s probably a big pain in the ass

Anyway, /r/place really was Reddit’s peak and one of the funniest things I’ve ever done on the internet. I would love to see something similar to happen within the Fediverse. In terms of communities and fragmentation, I think the Fediverse is mature enough and I would love to see how all its planets and galaxies would coordinate, organize and cooperate to get their drawing on a common giant canvas

Yes we need people from the fediverse to come along also a good opportunity to get more people aware of this platform

Isn’t fediverse made for this, the diversity among instances

also, from a technical point of view, I don’t know how easy it would be to moderate the whole thing to avoid botnets and such. It’s probably a big pain in the ass

yes we would need lots of mods to make it decent and SFW.

but if organized it would be the most fun thing to happen in the fedi
