Bioremediation efforts like this are one of the few promising methods out there, in my opinion. The ability to scale up to a massive extent isn’t nearly as rife with challenges as synthetic flocculants. Synthetic flocculation solves one major problem but creates a new problem that is far from solved and it always pissed me off that die hard advocates for this approach do everything they can do avoid or minimize valid criticism, often through the usual methods of academic snobbery. There’s so many researchers out there who almost seem irritated at the peer review process when it pokes holes in deeply flawed “solutions” like synthetic flocculation.
